Two years ago he put his marriage at risk when he admitted getting ‘too friendly’ with his co-star in a production of Les Miserables.
But now Gareth Gates seems to be getting close to another of his leading ladies.
On Friday night, Gates, 28, who has a three-year-old daughter with his devoted wife Suzanne, was seen out with 23-year-old actress Faye Brookes, who is appearing with him in a production of Legally Blonde.
Colleagues at the theatre have been gossiping about their apparent closeness.
The development may alarm Suzanne, 37, who two years ago forgave the singer after he admitted to his friendship with actress Katie Hall, his on-stage lover in ‘Les Mis’ during a nationwide tour.
Gates and Brookes have been performing together – as a couple – in Legally Blonde at the New Wimbledon Theatre since July.
After Friday’s show, the pair left the theatre at 10.15pm with a large group of fellow cast members and they all headed to a nearby Wetherspoon pub for drinks.
After Gates posed for a few pictures with fans and had a drink with the cast, he left with Brookes at 11.30pm.
Giggling and appearing to pinch each other’s bottoms, the pair huddled under an umbrella as they walked towards Gates’s white Range Rover Sport parked nearby.
Later they were seen arriving at the studio flat in Wimbledon where Brookes is staying. Outside she appeared to have lost her keys and a flatmate was summoned to open the door.
The friendship is the talk of the production. ‘They are quite brazen about it,’ said a member of the Legally Blonde cast.
‘They have adjoining dressing rooms and Faye is often sitting around in Gareth’s room. Some of the cast found it difficult to contend with because they are always friendly and respectful to Gareth’s wife when she pops in.’
Gates was discovered on TV talent show Pop Idol in 2002, when, combating his stammer, he was runner-up to Will Young.
He is a former head chorister at Bradford Cathedral, sang solo for the Queen, and has sold 3.5 million records. He and Suzanne live in Chiswick, West London, with their daughter.

Brad and Angelina, 37, have already bought each of their six children a Shetland pony. ‘Brad enjoys polo and has been spending quite a lot of time at Coworth Park,’ says my mole. ‘He occasionally has a few beers with friends.’
