I work out! Former Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle shows off his washboard stomach while Jamie Lomas remains covered up

They both used to be in Hollyoaks, but perhaps that's where the similarities end for Ricky Whittle and Jamie Lomas.

The pair were spotted working out together in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles yesterday but appeared to be doing so for very different reasons.

While Whittle, 30, saw the exercise regime as the perfect opportunity to show off his body, 31-year-old Lomas looked rather miserable and even a little camera shy.

Both men, who are in the U.S. for work purposes, are clearly feeling the pressure to look good and stay in shape and Whittle's hard work seems to have paid off.

The Manchester-born star displayed his impressive abs by going topless for their workout and even showed off his Calvin Klein underwear by wearing his long Adidas shorts below his waist.

Lomas, on the other hand, wasn't so keen to bare all and chose to keep his vest on along with a pair of Nike shorts.

The British star - who has been in a relationship with Coronation Street star Kym Marsh since 2008 - was clearly not feeling as confident about his physique, especially next to Whittle.

Both men had brought along a pair of headphones to listen to music as they strolled, and at one point Whittle appeared to be showing off a dance move of his as he pressed his hands to his chest.

Whittle, who left Hollyoaks in May 2010 after his character Calvin Valentine was killed off, is obviously doing well and yesterday took to his Twitter account to share his latest career move with his followers.

'On set of single ladies this time next week so takin advantage of final days off!Gym & Runyon twice,now a jacuzzi soothe watching sunset :)' he wrote.

However, his former co-star and friend Lomas, will be back home in the UK later on this month, just in time for his daughter's first birthday.

It was reported that his relationship with Marsh was 'on the rocks' following his decision to relocate to Los Angeles, but yesterday the former Hear'Say star denied the rumours in her weekly column in new! magazine.

'First of all, we're not on the rocks,' she wrote. 'Secondly, we've never hidden the fact that things have been difficult for all of us with him being away, but he's been painted as the villain of the piece.

'The inference is that he's abandoned me and it's not like that at all. The decision for him to go to Los Angeles was a joint one and I knew how long for.'

Kym added that things have been considerably more difficult of late because her father has fallen ill.

'Yes, it's hard and I'm tired, and my dad being ill added to the stress, but I've got a really good network of family and friends to rely on.

'Jamie will be back in time for our daughter Polly's first birthday on March 23, which was always the plan.'
