Up close and personal: Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams share a kiss as they head out for lunch on the eve of his birthday

No doubt he would have got lots of them today from his sexy blonde girlfriend.

But even on the eve of his birthday, Michael Sheen got lucky when Rachel McAdams pulled him into a display of affection for all the world to see.

The couple were snapped arriving for lunch in Beverly Hills on Saturday and couldn't keep their eyes and hands off each other as they walked into the restaurant.

And Michael, who turned 43 today, looked like the cat who had got the cream as he held his lady close and kissed her, completely oblivious to who may be watching them.

And she looked equally as smitten as she cuddled her man and laughed at his jokes, looking chic in a short patterned dress and knee high black boots.

Rachel recently claimed that they never spend more than three weeks apart from each other.

Sharing a joke: The couple looked oblivious to the world and only had eyes for each other as they giggled at something funny

And from the look of them yesterday, it's easy to see why.

Today was Michael's birthday and the pair were engrossed in each others' company as they lunched at Little Dom's restaurant, then hit Sunset Boulevard for a little shopping to celebrate

Rachel covered up in a black polar neck sweater, but chose a more summery cream skirt with a rowing boat pattern, completing her look with black boots.

Michael was quite the gent in a grey suit and peaked cap, with a pale blue shirt adding a touch of colour.

The pair browsed a comic book store after their meal.

Rachel, 33, has revealed that she and Michael never spend more than three weeks apart.

Professional: The pair became friends while filming Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris, but waited until after shooting to get romantically involved

'Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart - we rack up a lot of air miles - but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not,'she told Stella Magazine.

'Trying to establish roots somewhere is a bit of a joke. You need to trust each other and be able to talk to each other and be best friends.'

Rachel added that she is thankful that she and Sheen developed a strong friendship before becoming romantically involved, and waited until after filming Midnight in Paris to become romantic.

'Michael and I didn't get together while we were filming Midnight In Paris, which I feel strongly about not doing when I'm working,' she revealed.

'We became quite good friends, which I think is a great way to start. I felt very blessed to have made a Woody Allen film in Paris together.'

The pair acknowledged their relationship openly when they appeared on the red carpet together at the Cannes Film Festival in May last year.

Rachel recently took centre stage in a revealing new clip from her upcoming romantic drama The Vow.

The video gives fans a glimpse of the actress's amazing figure when she strips down to her underwear and jumps into a lake with leading man Channing Tatum.

Favourite genre: Rachel is starring in romantic drama The Vow opposite Channing Tatum

The duo star in the epic love story about a young Chicago woman who slips into a coma following a car accident.

When she wakes up from her blackout with severe memory loss, her husband Leo works to win her heart again.

The emotional scenes in the trailer include the couple going through old photographs, seemingly to trigger her memory and getting married in a pink frock.

Baring (almost) all: A clip from the film shows Rachel showing of her figure in underwear

But it’s evident that the film focuses on watching the pair fall for each other for a second time as they are seen in number of heart-felt clinches.

McAdams' past big screen successes are of the same genre and include films alongside Ryan Gosling in The Notebook, and playing Eric Bana’s partner in The Time Traveler’s Wife.

During an interview on Live! with Kelly, McAdams revealed that the new movie– directed by Michael Sucsy - is based on a real life couple, Kim and Krickitt Carpenter.
