About a girl: Hugh Grant becomes a father for the first time to a baby daughter

By Georgina Littlejohn

Hugh Grant has become a father for the first time.

The Bridget Jones actor welcomed a baby daughter early last month but the identity of the mother has yet to be revealed.

Grant, 51, is not with the mother of the child any more but is said to be 'thrilled' about becoming a father, according to Us Weekly,

A source told the publication: 'He's going to be a great dad!

'He's beaming about his daughter. He's not with the mum anymore but he's absolutely thrilled.'

Today, Hugh's publicist confirmed to the Mail Online that he has become a father - but would not reveal the mother's identity.

She said: 'I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl.

'He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive.

'He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms.'

Grant, who has never been married, was last romantically linked to Chinese actress Tinglan Hong back in April this year as they were snapped out together on a string of dates in London.

He also dated socialite and writer Jemima Khan from 2004 to 2007 but his most well-known relationship was with actress Elizabeth Hurley who he dated for 13 years from 1987 to 2000.

Hurley became a mother to son Damian, now nine, and underwent a paternity battle with his father, American businessman Steve Bing.

Bing, 46, denied Damien was his and said he and Hurley had a brief, non-exclusive relationship until a DNA test confirmed he was the father.

Grant is Damian's godfather and Hurley said she and the Four Weddings and a Funeral star are still close and she considers him to be like 'family'.

She said: 'Hugh and I met in 1987 on the set on a movie in Madrid and have been best friends ever since. I completely consider him one of my family and love spending time with him, even though we annoy each other at times.

'Damian adores his godfather and Hugh is great with him.'

Long-term: Hugh dated socialite Jemima Khan for three years

In 2007, Grant told Vogue magazine that he would like to become a father as he was ready for the responsibility.

He said: 'As much as I adore myself, I'm quite keen to find someone else to care about more.

'I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was to not be all me, me, me.'
