Getting ready for babies: Mariah Carey in the nursery she has created in her Bel Air, California, home ahead of the arrival of her twins
With less than a month until her due date, Mariah Carey is making certain that her twins will be born into luxury.
The 42-year-old has given a sneak peek inside the lavish new nursery she has created in the Bel Air, California, mansion she shares with her husband, Nick Cannon, 30.
The room is trimmed with her signature motif - butterflies - and stuffed-animals including a lamb and a huge giraffe, which was a gift from Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
'I wanted to create a beautiful, tranquil, cozy environment for the babies,' Mariah, who is expecting a boy and a girl, tells the new issue of America's Life&Style magazine.
'Everything matches, but pieces are individualized to celebrate the twins as separate entities.'
She called decorator Mario Buatta and AFK Furniture's Gail Sedigh to help transform the rooms.
'I feel like I’m bringing two individuals into the world, so I wanted to do more than cookie-cutter styles in blue and pink.'
They opted for a pink and green theme bed trimmings rather than the traditional pink and blue.
Mariah also looked to her own music for inspiration.
'The ceiling has orangey-pink clouds in a blue sky with golden stars twinkling. It’s based on two songs I wrote that are fan favourites: Underneath the Stars and Close My Eyes,' she reveals.
Double the fun: The room features two cots and huge toy giraffe, a gift from Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne
'Sometimes I just sit in the nursery and stare at the ceiling because I love it so much. To me, it symbolizes wanting my children to dream as big as possible and to let their imaginations be unbridled.'
The couple also have an apartment in New York, however they are still deciding where to raise their children.
'I prefer the East Coast schooling over the West Coast,' Nick says. 'But there are other things that come into play, like work.'
Mariah, who is due on May 14, is eager to begin her new role.
'Being a mother is probably the hardest job in the world. I feel like, in a lot of ways, children come into the world to teach us,' Mariah says.
'It’s going to be a delicate balance between raising them around glitz and glamour and keeping them grounded. One thing I’m sure of is that I’ll be grateful for the twins every day, no matter what.'
But the star plans to juggle motherhood with her career and has already signed up for to be part of Simon Cowell's new show, X Factor.
After shooting down reports that Mariah was set to be one of the judges, due to the timing of her pregnancy, he admitted in a recent radio interview that the star would be involved with the show.
Simon said: 'I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows.'
He added: 'I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with. She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.'
