Doing 'a Britney': Christina Aguilera made the same mistake as her childhood nemesis and donned a too tight corset/leotard on The Voice tonight
Their lives have always mirrored each other in certain ways, ever since they were Disney Mouseketeers together as children.
Some have been more favourable than others, but tonight when Christina Aguilera 'did a Britney' it wasn't a triumphant echo of her childhood nemesis.
In fact, she aped her peer - however subconsciously - by squeezing into a far too small corset accessorised with fishnets atop the obligatory Louboutin platforms.
Scroll down to watch Christina perform...
Oh dear: Aguilera's revealing outfit certainly didn't flatter her curves
Christina has been working on shaping up lately and is unarguably a fine figure of a woman.
In a fitted dress, perhaps one that went beneath the cross, she would have looked wonderful and not at all cumbersome.
As it was, her lively rendition of the rallying Fighter, was rather marred by the cartoon sight of her inelegantly tottering around on the vertiginous shoes while trussed up.
But she has a voice as voluptuous as those curves, and that alone saved the performance.
Style twins: Did Christina subconsciously copy her arch rival?
Ill-fitting: Christina's outfit was too tight and too small, it made her look cumbersome
Bringing the house down: Christina was joined by contestants on the show for the lively performance
Also, the blonde had more to contend with than a wardrobe misjudgement as tonight the show featured the first 'instant eliminations.'
She and Blake Shelton, were the judges unlucky enough to have first go at sending one of their group home at the end of tonight's show.
An additional member of each team will be voted off by the public on Tuesday.
Along with Aguilera, Blake Shelton also hit the stage and Adam Levine's band Maroon 5 debuted a new song with Wiz Khalifa, fresh from his performance with Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre at Coachella.
She's just a country girl: Raelynn won the judges over with her simple charm, and made Christina want to change genres
Shock: Jordis changed tack and gave a subtle emotional performance, but Blake sent her home
Proud: The young singer said she was pleased with all she had achieved
Only Cee Lo didn't perform.
Back to the contestants and country girl RaeLynn, won over the judges with her spit and sawdust turn.
'Man, I'm gonna say, you make me want to sing country,' Christina exclaimed.
Blake added: 'This is the most proud moment I've had of any person on my team.'
Jesse Campbell then delivered a fabulous rendition of Beyoncé's Halo followed by Blake rock-lover Jordis Unga's take on Sara Evans' Stronger.
Fan favourite: There were gasps when Christina sent Jesse home, he was a popular choice to fight on
Star turn: Jermaine's version of Against All Odds by Phil Collins was Aguilera's favourite performance of the night
The sensitive performance seemed to be a new high for the contestant, who donned a ball gown instead of her usual leather.
Christina's Ashley De La Rosa seared through Jewel's Foolish Games, with all the judges concurring to commend Aguilera for keeping this talent in the show/ .
Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa's Payfone upstaged Aguilera and is destined to be a hit for the behemoth of a group and the hot talent, who is dating Kanye West's ex, Amber Rose.
Team Blake's Erin Willet performed Adele's Set Fire to the Rain as her mentor saw her as the 'only person in the competition who could really do it justice.'
In with a shot: The judges had a rare moment of agreement when they all praised Christina for keeping Ashley in the competition
Show stealing: Wiz Khalifa and Maroon 5 premiered their new single, Payfone
Lindsey Pavao, under Christina's guidance, went for Katy Perry's Part of Me.
Shelton picked Heartache Tonight by the Eagles for his team's joint performance, the simple performance was a winner and diametrically opposed to Christina's OTT debacle.
Jermaine Paul handled Phil Collins Against All Odds beautifully, and the judges were divided over how they felt classically trained Chris Mann handled Coldplay's Viva la Vida.
Joking around: Christina sent her dancers over to Blake because he often complains about the over the top production on the show
What a night: After shocking everyone with her performance, Christina surprised by sending Jesse home
His mentor, Christina, applauded him for stepping out of his comfort zone, but Adam wasn't sure how well his more voice connected to the feeling of the song.
The exits were a shock to everyone, as Aguilera chose Jesse Campell and Blake sent Jordis home, nothing is for certain in this competition.
