Ladies of the manor: Downton Abbey ladies Elizabeth McGovern and Joanne Froggatt lead the red carpet glamour at 2012 Baftas

Downton darlings: Elizabeth McGovern and Joanne Froggatt looked gorgeous in their long black gowns as they arrived for the Orange British Film Awards

In their popular period drama series, one of them lives upstairs in luxurious and decadent surroundings while the other waits on the aristocracy.

But there was certainly no class divide for Elizabeth McGovern and Joanne Froggatt as they both stole the show on the red carpet tonight.

The Downton Abbey stars dazzled for the flashbulbs as they arrived at the Royal Opera House in London for this year's Orange Bafta Film Awards.

Elizabeth, 50, who plays Lady Cora Crawley, looked gorgeous in a long strapless black gown with an embellished bodice as she stopped for the cameras on the way inside.

She kept her accessories simple and elegant as she teamed the dress with a small silver clutch bag by Jimmy Choo, drop earrings and a diamond necklace and bracelet.

Joanne, 31, who plays head housemaid Anna Smith, looked very chic in her simple floor-length black dress by Victoria Beckham, which had a long zip running all the way down the back and which she teamed with black shoes and a small gold clutch bag, both by Jimmy Choo.

No class divide tonight: They play opposite characters in the popular period drama but the ladies looked equally as stunning

Power couple: Elizabeth was accompanied by her husband Simon Curtis, director of My Week With Marilyn which is up for Best British Film

And she and Joanne were joined by Jessica Brown Findlay, who plays Elizabeth's on-screen daughter Lady Sybil, and also wore a long black dress and carried a Jimmy Choo bag like her co-stars.

And it proved to be a glamorous night worthy of the blonde bombshell herself with some of the biggest names in British film gracing their red carpet with their stunning presence.

It's certainly the biggest night of the year for British film and the chance for actors, actresses and other celebrities to really make an impression on the red carpet.

However, it wasn't a complete success for Fearne Cotton and Edith Bowman who left their mark for all the wrong reasons.

The ladies were snapped arriving at the Orange Bafta Film Awards in London this evening, in frumpy and unflattering dresses that did nothing for their lovely figures.

Fearne, 30, who is presenting red carpet coverage of the event for E! with Dermot O'Leary, arrived at the event at the Royal Opera House in London in a long, salmon coloured dress by Moschino.

It hung shapelessly to the floor and was gathered high up in her neck with black jewels around her neck.

Her white vest top underneath was clearly visible underneath and it was tied at the waist in a big black velvet bow.

Static: Fearne struggled to pull the dress away from her legs as she walked up the red carpet

Her hair looked lovely though and was curled around her face in pretty waves in a very Hollywood glamour style.

Her Radio 1 colleague Edith, 38, also made a bit of a disastrous attempt at red carpet glamour when she arrived in a shapeless, off-the-shoulder William Vintage white dress.

The frock, which had a lace and jewelled trim on the neckline, had flared short sleeves and hem and fell out at the sides doing nothing for her figure.

Double act: Fearne is co-hosting the red carpet coverage with X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary, who looked very smart in his tuxedo

She teamed the look with long white gloves and two huge gold rings.

In contrast, Radio 2 host Zoe Ball looked very elegant in a long black dress with long sleeves and which was tied at the neck with a pretty gold clasp.
