This time last year Michael Douglas announced he had beaten cancer.

And a year on the Hollywood star looks happy and healthy enjoying a family holiday in Panama.

Michael was seen with wife Catherine Zeta Jones and their two children son Dylan, 11 and daughter Carys, eight on the beach yesterday.

Happy and healthy: Michael Douglas was looking in great shape as he enjoyed a day at the beach with his family in Panama yesterday

The Wall Street star appeared relaxed as he wandered around the beach in a pair of board shorts and looked much younger than his 67-years.

While the actor might have gone shirtless he protected his feet with a pair of black and green scuba shoes.

Catherine, 42, covered up in an elegant animal red printed kaftan with animal print detail.

Hand in hand: Michael and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones made the most of a moment alone enjoyed a walk on the beach

Calm and relaxed: The couple were enjoyed a day at the beach with a group of friends as well as their children

Chic cover up: Catherine, 42, stepped out in a pink and animal print kaftan for the day

She teamed the ensemble with a pair of dark sunglasses as she and Michael enjoyed a romantic stroll along the sand together.

While her husband opted for beach footwear the actress went barefoot.

Michael was seen lovingly putting his arm around his wife and the pair were also seen walking hand-in-hand.

Isn't that a bit big for you? The couple's son Dylan was seen standing in front of a large surf board after being in the water with the family friends

Over here: The group watched the surfers and Michael was seen gesturing to some of them

Going au natural: Michael was seen taking his beach shoes off as he headed into the sea but put them back on as he walked back to the group

The family were joined by friends and the children appeared to be happy heading into the waves to surf.

The couple's son Dylan was seen standing in front of a large surf board after being in the water with the family friends.

The 11-year-old certainly looked that part in a pair of orange and purple board shorts and a green and black T-shirt.

Warm greeting: The couple appeared closer than ever and were seen smiling at one other

Surf's up: The Douglas family were joined by plenty of friends and were part of a large group enjoying the day at the beach

Michael and Catherine looked just like any other couple enjoying a fun family holiday and their group consisted of family and friends of all ages.

The Welsh actress also proved to be a doting mother and when her daughter Carys emerged from the water Catherine was on hand to help her with a towel to dry her off.

The eight-year-old was wrapped up in a blue towel as the family prepared to pack up their things.

Let's get you warmed up: Carys, eight, was seen emerging from the water and Catherine was quick to help her with a towel

Time to head in: Michael was seen carrying a surf board out of the water with Dylan by his side

Michael was seen acting the perfect father and gentleman and was seen aiding his son pulling in his board from the surf.

The actor then picked up the family bag and was seen carrying the group's paraphernalia.

The holiday marks the one-year anniversary that Michael revealed he had beaten throat cancer.

Michael and Catherine made their first public appearance since the news at the Golden Globe Awards last year.

Back to the hotel: Michael proved the perfect gentleman and was seen carrying the family bag as they made their way back from the beach

Hat's nice: Both Catherine and Michael were seen wearing protective headgear as they made their way from the beach

Casual couple: Michael and Catherine were a world away from their Hollywood lives and appeared like any other normal couple enjoying a family holiday

As they arrived at the Beverly Hilton Catherine had asked the MailOnline: 'Doesn't he look better?'

And at the ceremony itself Douglas himself was in a happy mood, joking: 'There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation,' as he took to the stage to present the award for Best Film.

In August 2010 it emerged that the actor was suffering from throat cancer, which was at an advanced stage.

Making a splash: Michael and the family were seen making their way through the surf towards home

Lagging behind: But the girls were soon seen leaving Michael behind carrying the bags

But after a grueling series of chemotherapy treatments the actor revealed he had been given the all clear in January last year.

Speaking to NBC Today host Matt Lauer in an interview at the time, he said: 'I feel good. I feel relieved.

'The tumor is gone [and] the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat.'
