Kanye West heads to Elton John's charity bash in a $1.7m limited edition Mercedes

Nice wheels: Kanye West and a friend made their way to the annual amfAR dinner and auction today in a Mercedes concept car worth over $1.7m


When you're off to party with the famously extravagant Elton John, normal statements of wealth and fame just won't cut it.

Luckily Kanye West knew just how to impress as he donned a tuxedo and arrived in a $1.7million sports car.

Kanye, 33, tore himself away from partying on a string of multi-million dollar yachts to enjoy a spin around the quaint French streets of Cannes in a 75 Mercedes McLaren SLR Stirling Moss sport car.

The powerful motor has a top speed of 217mph and there are believed to only be handful of the cars in existence - which given the price tag, does not come as an enormous surprise.

Kanye and his friend were on their way to one of the most exciting Cannes parties of the year, the annual amfAR dinner and auction, held at the Hotel du Cap in the Cap d'Antibes.

The prestigious event was hosted by Elton John who dedicated this year's event to the late Elizabeth Taylor, who passed away in March.

Kanye was appropriately dressed in a James Bond style tuxedo and there is no denying that his powerful motor was the ultimate accessory.

The rapper joined by a host of glittering stars from the film and fashion world at the black tie event.

Big names to make the guest list included fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, actress Kristen Dunst and Oscar winner, Sean Penn.

Kanye and his friend will also have been hob-nobbing with the Cannes Film Festival President, Robert De Niro, who made a special guest appearance at the exclusive charity bash.

Later in the day, Kanye joined supermodel, Naomi Campbell, on stage at the amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Gala to raise awareness for the cause.

Meanwhile, the hip hop star was seen earlier this week chilling in Cannes with his new friend Boris Becker.

The tennis legend and his wife Sharlely had rented a luxury yacht moored on the French Riviera during the Film Festival, and played host to Kanye and a party of other friends.
